Miguel Amar, one of the company´s creators and an avid birdwatcher, took a step forward in promoting the activity of birdwatching in the Yucatan by launching a new branch of Mexico Kan Tours called AMAR AVES. We are all aware of the many benefits that birdwatching can have for conservation, not only for the birds themselves, but also for the different ecosystems that the birds occupy. In addition, birdwatching can contribute to local people´s quality of life by bringing visitors into areas off the tourist track which have not yet been developed, and for that same reason, offer great bird diversity. Enthusiasts of birds, nature and culture will find in Amar Aves many great options to help them plan a great day or a multi-day trip for birding. ¨I believe the Yucatan has the potential to get recognition as one of the top birding destinations in the world¨ Miguel said.
In addition, Mexico Kan Tours recently participated in the 6th Bird Marathon, which took place in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in the Mexican state of Campeche. The goal was to document as many different species of birds in a lapse of 29 hours.
The team was composed of Mexico Kan Tours ‘s guides as well as a local guide from Calakmul. They took the opportunity to explore the UNESCO World cultural and natural Heritage Site (mixed value site) with the second largest tropical forest in America after the Amazon! In total the team registered 116 different species of birds, of which the highlights for them were the Ocellated Turkey Meleagris ocellata (an endemic species), the Great Curassow Crax rubra and the Crested Guan Penelope purpurascens, three big beautiful birds.
If just like them, you are passionate about nature and have an interest in birds, we invite you to try one of the birding excursions proposed by Amar Aves. You don´t need to be an expert to enjoy birdwatching; it is just another way to enjoy the many wonders of the Yucatan Peninsula and maybe, just maybe, we might be able to add another convert to this very rewarding activity.
