The following itinerary is designed to capture the essence of the Yucatan Peninsula. You will visit a variety of incredible natural and historical sites, mixing well-known landmarks with hidden gems, all the while focusing on travel by bicycle and responsible tourism. Our regional expertise will allow you to experience ecotourism initiatives in Mayan communities, charming colonial towns bustling with local life & flavours, coastal villages as yet undisturbed by tourism and the magnificent splendor of Chichen Itza.

Day 1:
Arrival

Day 2 :
Welcome to the Peninsula
Bike among rural Mayan communities: local culture & cuisine, permaculture, conservation projects, rural villages, Punta Laguna nature reserve, cenote & introduction to the Mayan language. An eye-opening first day of exploration in Mexico.

Day 3 :
Ancient & Modern Mexico
Bike through the expansive ruins of Coba, an ancient Mayan city buried deep in the jungle, where many stops are made to explore the history of this fascinating civilization. Cycle on to San Juan de Dios village for a refreshing swim in a breathtaking cenote. Lunch in Coba and then afternoon transfer to Valladolid, a charming colonial town. Enjoy an evening walk with your guide among the plazas, cobbled streets and picturesque facades.

Day 5 :
Chichen Itza, Wonder of our World
Today we hit the road stopping at the wonderfully decorated church at Uayma and on through more typical towns of the Yucatan interior. We will stop for lunch and an optional cenote swim, before arriving at Chichen Itza. A must if you visit the region, the degree of detail in the art, the phenomenal architecture and quality of restoration is on another level. Take in a full guided tour in the afternoon before we hop in the van for a transfer to our next destination, the Yellow City of Izamal.

Day 4 :
Ek Balam, Cenotes & Valladolid
Starting off with a visit to the bustling, colorful market of Valladolid where you can see all the local produce & crafts from the surrounding villages on sale. We then bike out to the ruins of Ek Balam, home to one of the few temples in the area where you can climb to the summit and an incredibly well-preserved royal tomb. Afterwards a short cycle onwards for lunch and a stop at a very unique cenote, completing a circuit back to Valladolid.

Day 6 :
Izamal - Rio Lagartos
Take an hour or two to soak in the glory of Izamal, one of the oldest, continuously inhabited towns in all of America. From the ochre-colored streets and buildings to the huge church atrium & the ancient Mayan pyramid in the middle of town, Izamal is a very special, charming place. Our route today takes us first east then north, towards the Gulf of Mexico. After an 80km ride, lunch is a real treat, at the beautifully restored Casona Los Cedros restaurant, where you can relax and indulge in top class cuisine. Then its on to Rio Lagartos, a small fishing village right on the water of the Gulf.

Day 7 :
Rio Lagartos & Las Coloradas
We begin the day with an early morning boat tour of the maze of waterways and mangrove forest adjacent to the coast. Teeming with birdlife and home to the largest colony of the pink flamingo in the region, this tour is a nature-lover’s dream come true. And of course, you can’t miss the crocodiles! Afterwards we cycle to the mesmerizing pink lagoons of Las Coloradas and a delicious local seafood lunch. If that weren’t enough, the real highlight is the afternoon cycling: 30km of a coastal stretch between sand dunes, saltwater flats, lagoons and the sea that leads us to El Cuyo. Simply spectacular.

Day 8 :
El Cuyo - ¡ Hasta luego !
Enjoy the morning on the beach or by the pool in El Cuyo, one of our favorite ‘get away from it all’ spots in Mexico. Sandy streets and very chill vibes, this charming fisherman village is a great spot to wind down after our epic journey.
Stay an extra few days! Or let us take you on to your next destination, be it Cancun Airport or any hotel in the Riviera Maya or Tulum.
