Take an hour or two to soak in the glory of Izamal, one of the oldest, continuously inhabited towns in all of America. From the ochre-colored streets and buildings to the huge church atrium & the ancient Mayan pyramid in the middle of town, Izamal is a very special, charming place. Our route today takes us first east then north, towards the Gulf of Mexico. After an 80km ride, lunch is a real treat, at the beautifully restored Casona Los Cedros restaurant, where you can relax and indulge in top class cuisine. Then its on to Rio Lagartos, a small fishing village right on the water of the Gulf.

We begin the day with an early morning boat tour of the maze of waterways and mangrove forest adjacent to the coast. Teeming with birdlife and home to the largest colony of the pink flamingo in the region, this tour is a nature-lover’s dream come true. And of course, you can’t miss the crocodiles! Afterwards we cycle to the mesmerizing pink lagoons of Las Coloradas and a delicious local seafood lunch.
