How do you called?
Water kite surfing is a watersport that you can call or kitesurfing or kiteboarding. Two names for the same watersport that today can be practice in the water, in the snow and on land. The last 3 years, the terminology has evolved and now, we can say that kiteboarding refers to a style of riding known as freestyle or wake-style, whereas kitesurfing is more "wave-riding" oriented. These two styles usually require different boards and specific performance kites. Kite-board riding styles have evolved to suit riders and conditions, such as wakestyle, waveriding, freestyle, jumping, and cruising.
But how kite surf works?
Kite surfing uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard (similar to a wakeboard). A kitesurfers or kiteboarders ride a board with or without foot-straps combined with the power of a large controllable kite to propel the rider and the board across the water. The sport is becoming safer due to innovations in kite design, safety release systems, and instruction. International Kiteboarding Organization, IKO, is becoming the major kite association providing a specific training to professional instructor. Their goal is to provide the most efficient and safest kite board lesson to future instructor´s students. Let´s say IKO is for kiteboarding what PADI is for diving.
Kite surf Mexico?
Many Mexican spots allow kite surfing practice thanks to good wind condition; South California (Wind from December to March), Mexican Golf cost (Wind from December to May), North Yucatan cost (wind almost all year, except maybe September & October) and in the Caribbean Sea (Wind from mid November to May). You can find man places to enjoy kite-board but no so many schools with IKO instructor. It´s a totally new sport in Mexico, so you may attract a lot of spectators to the beach, watch out they have sometimes unpredictable reaction. There is mostly no regulation against kitesurfing, just maybe in some high density hotel zone with private beaches. Our advice; if you invest time and money to learn this incredible extreme watersport that mix in one sport the joy of paragliding, wakeboarding, windsurfing but also the danger of those. You may make sure that you follow a kite course in a good school with certificate IKO instructor.
