Monkey Reserve - Coba
The community of Punta Laguna, conscious of the development of tourism, has decided to promote its lands together with Mexico Kan Tours. While avoiding an approach to tourism that would destroy their traditions, Punta Laguna has chosen to proceed with an informed eco-tourism that will not aversely affect the flora and fauna of their reserve. This marvelous natural environment is characterized by impressive lagoons and cenotes with crystal-clear water, and a luxurious jungle with an extraordinary bio-diversity.
A few kilometers from Punta Laguna you will find the famous Mayan ruins of Coba. Dating from the late-classic period (600-1000 A.D.), this ancient city was built as a metropolis and capital of a large state that ranged from the Peten in Guatemala to the Gulf of Mexico. The archeological site of Coba, hidden in the Mayan jungle, is famous for its two grand pyramids (from the top of which you can appreciate the spectacular view), its ball court, its stellae reminiscent of those at the famous Tikal, and its painting fragments.
